Cathedral Cave, Bermuda

Well-hidden near the Causeway to St George's and St David's Islands is this quietly spectacular limestone cave, with clear pools and underwater tunnels to the Atlantic. It's so easy to get lost when sketching in all the fluted formations and flowing stalactites, but I didn’t want to miss out any of these improbable, alien structures, and rendering them in miniature was a way of highlighting their delicacy and complexity. The colours in this cave were a joy to paint, from greens, burnt oranges and pinks to the azure blue of the water.
