Hermitage

Near the banks of the River Coquet in Northumberland, the solid rock has been carved out into the serene and shaded Warkworth Hermitage. The subject of an 18th century ballad, the Hermitage is a quiet and peaceful place, with the giant yew tree guarding the entrance steps with its sprawling branches. The magnificent ruins of Warkworth Castle are a short boat ride downriver.
