Miniature Paintings

This special genre of painting evolved from the pages of Medieval manuscripts. From the jewelled court portaits of Elizabethan England to Georgian treasures, this demanding artform still captivates today.
    My introduction to miniatures was a challenge from my picture framer: to fill a tiny, useless practice frame 5cm square. The resulting landscape led to a fascination with miniatures, historical and contemporary, and a decade on I'm an award-winning miniaturist and member of the Hilliard Society.
    I'm still experimenting; the more textured, intricate, or grand the subject the more I enjoy rendering it on a tiny scale. I use acrylic on board, oil on metals and egg tempera on copper or board.
